چکیده

Thrombopathies; Impedance aggregometry; PRP aggregometry Abstract Brahimi et al. in this journal formed a hypothesis that ‘‘the platelet count is underestimated, by an automated cell counter, each time platelet aggregates are present in the sample tube.’’ The addition of a platelet agonist to a stimulated sample tube will lead to the formation of platelet aggregates and hence to a drop in the platelet count. In the case of a hereditary platelet dysfunction, platelet aggregates cannot be formed upon addition of a platelet agonist and the platelet count will remain unchanged. The authors propose a hypothesis to develop ‘‘a more accessible screening technique for these hereditary platelet dysfunctions.’’ In our reply, we critically evaluate this screening method and focus on the importance of the differences between impedance aggregometry in whole blood versus aggregometry in platelet-rich plasma. a 2013 Tehran University of Medical Sciences. Multilevel continuous intercostal nerve block catheter: a viable alternative to thoracic epidural for multiple rib fractures?

In Reply: Drs. Slater and Lerner have reemphasized a critical point in our published case scenario1: Standard coagulation tests are inadequate in assessing adequacy of platelet function for epidural catheterization. Therefore, we recommended in our algorithm presented in figure 4 of our original report1 to use whole blood multiple electrode impedance aggregometry (Multiplate®; Roche Diagnostics...

Whole blood impedance aggregometry as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of severe sepsis

INTRODUCTION Sepsis leads to an activation of the immune system and hemostatis. However, studies on platelet aggregation in severe sepsis using impedance aggregometry have not been performed and the diagnostic and prognostic capabilities are unknown. In the present study we hypothesized that impedance aggregometry findings might serve as a biomarker for the diagnosis and prognosis of severe sep...

Determination of clopidogrel resistance by whole blood platelet aggregometry and inhibitors of the P2Y12 receptor.

BACKGROUND Inhibition of platelet aggregation by clopidogrel may be insufficient in up to 30% of users. These nonresponders carry an increased risk of cardiovascular events. We reported here a simple assay to study clopidogrel responsiveness. METHODS Electrical impedance aggregometry was performed in diluted whole blood in the presence of 5 and 20 micromol/L ADP. Some samples were incubated w...

Influence of the sample anticoagulant on the measurements of impedance aggregometry in cardiac surgery

BACKGROUND The standard method of assessment of platelet function is represented by light transmission aggregometry (LTA), performed in citrated platelet-rich plasma (PRP). With LTA, decrease and subsequent post-cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) recovery of platelet function have been reported during cardiac surgery. Multiple electrode aggregometry (MEA) may be used as point-of-care method to monito...

The Role of Whole Blood Impedance Aggregometry and Its Utilisation in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Patients with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and Sepsis in Acute Critical Illness

OBJECTIVE To assess the prognostic and diagnostic value of whole blood impedance aggregometry in patients with sepsis and SIRS and to compare with whole blood parameters (platelet count, haemoglobin, haematocrit and white cell count). METHODS We performed an observational, prospective study in the acute setting. Platelet function was determined using whole blood impedance aggregometry (multip...
